Day in the Life of a Lower Academy Student
8:25 a.m. Rohan arrives at school by school bus. He shakes hands and greets the school Director. He heads to his locker with Scott and Ben, who were on the bus with him. The teacher greets them all at the door to the classroom.
Rohan starts his day with Morning Work Time. Since it is Tuesday, he completes his daily math activities. He looks forward to Wednesday Morning Work Time when he will work on spelling.
At 8:45 a.m. The Morning Work Cycle begins. Rohan participates in a group lesson with his third grade classmates. Then he chooses to work on the timeline of life with Betty. Other days, he may work on math, reading, research, or geometry according to his daily workplan.
11:30 a.m. The teacher calls the students to Morning Circle where Rohan reads aloud a story for his classmates. They have a community meeting to discuss the next cooking class project.
At noon, the Lower Academy students join the Upper Academy students for lunch. Rohan is eating with two upperclassmen today. After lunch, he and his team mates play a fast moving game of football at recess.
1:00 p.m. The Afternoon Work Cycle begins with silent reading. Rohan then continues his morning projects until Clean up Time and Afternoon Circle. Today, Rohan is in charge of animal and plant care. He then joins in the circle discussion about the upcoming class recital.
At 3:30 p.m. Rohan and his classmates gather up their possessions and line up for dismissal. After saying goodbye to his teacher, he climbs on the bus and heads for home.
